At the inception of the Obasanjo Administration in 1999, he was appointed as Special Adviser (Econs) to the President, office of the Vice President. In this capacity, he assisted in fast-tracking the Nigeria–South Africa Bi–national commission including the introduction of the global system mobile communication network (GSM in 1999) which greatly provoked investments in the telecommunication and related ancillary sectors in Nigeria. Improvements in the bilateral relations between both nations remained profound and endearing in the early 2000s. He was also a member of the Country’s delegation to the World Economic Forum in 1999 and 2000 under the Leadership of His Excellency, the Vice President. He was also appointed a member of the Central Working Committee of Nigeria’s Vision 20: 2020 in 2009. He has been actively involved in the National Universities Commission (NUC) Accreditation Programmes since 1990, which focus on improving Academic Standards in Nigeria’s Universities, in consonance with global best practices. He has also served as External Examiners (Post Graduate) to several Universities and the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos and the Institute of Security Studies (ISS) Bwari, Abuja.
Hamilton Obiahu Isu is a Professor of Finance and Banking in Abia State University’s Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences. He was trained at Fordham University, Bronx, New York, and also at St. John’s University in New York. He was subsequently employed by the Federal Reserve Bank, New York, as a Bank and Finance Analyst. He ended his formal training at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, from where he earned his PhD in Banking and Finance. He was a Twaalfhoven Scholar while in Fordham and received the University’s Economic Prize on Graduation. During his Master’s Programme at St. Johns, he was a Graduate Assistant and got inducted into the U.S National Honour Society in Economics (ODE).
